The Conference was held from 2-6 November 2009 in Mutare

The Model United Nations by CPIA

CPIA hosted its first ever Model United Nations conference in November 2009. The conference was made up of CPIA regional youth training Alumni who also evaluated CPIA regional trainings as well as first time participants. This team got an opportunity to discuss and debate the current log-jam in Somalia. During the Model United Nations conference, as starting point, one committee, that is the UN Security Council was used to usher the discussion on Piracy Issues in Somalia. The participants represented the countries in the Security Council and the African Unions Peace and Security Council.

The Objectives of the Model United Nations Conference are:

·         To train the participants in areas of civics, communication and multilateral diplomacy

·         To sharpen the participants understanding of the issues affecting Africa and how decisions are made especially in the Security Council.

·         To enhance collaboration and cooperation of youths in matters of peace and security for all as enshrined in the UN Charter.

·         To contribute towards the inclusion of youths as active players in the various policy framework at national, regional and international level.

·         To enhance skills development and strategy formulation to initiate and drive processes for peace building and conflict transformation.

·         To further network youths by bringing Zimbabwean and African youths together.
